    BOB SEGER'S HISTORY:

Raised in the town of Dearborn, Michigan, Seger was raised on music! Seger’s childhood would influence his hard core blues style. They say blues comes from pain, and that’s exactly what Bob endured as a young kid. Born into a broken home, and abandoned by his Father, who was also the key influence in Seger’s introduction to music, his father’s departure was also an influence for writing about struggle in his music. In 1961, at 16 years old, Seger set off for Detroit, Michigan to take part in a growing rock and roll scene. Inspired by rock legends such as Elvis Presley, James Brown and Little Richard, Seger used his musical background to lead a three piece band called the Decibels. With the Decibels, Seger rotated on all instruments. Taking on piano, guitar, drums and vocals, Seger and the Decibels recorded their first demo called the ‘lonely one’ at Del Shannon Studios.

Seger’s first few years were a time of transitioning from one band to the next. Seger left the Decibels to join the Town Criers, a four piece band that Seger did vocals for. The band gained steam with their cover of ‘Louie, Louie.’ While the style of music was changing in the 1960’s, Seger’s inspiration from bands like the Beatles and friendly acquaintances such as Glen Frye of the Eagles, Seger strived to find a hit to get on the radio. Seger ended up singing with a new band called the Omens. He even co-wrote songs for other bands such as the ‘Underdogs’. Seger scored his first big hit in Detroit with his new band in 1966. The band was titled Bob Seger and the Last Heard. His song ‘the East Side Story’ sold around 50,000 copies. He later became a hit in Canada as well! Seger and the Last Heard signed their first big deal with Capital Records in 1968. Their name was changed to The Bob Seger System. His first national hit was ‘Ramblin Gamblin Man’ in 1969. His second album didn’t have as much success. After the failed Bob Seger System, Seger struggled for the next few years, and wouldn’t reach his highest point of success until 1976. For the first half of the 70’s, Seger went solo, played in bands such as Teegarden and Van Winkle and the Silver Bullet.

Although Teergarden and Silver Bullet did have some up-times, it wasn’t until Seger released Night Movies. A solo album, which included the self titled track ‘Night Movies’, which reached number four on the charts. The album reached the top ten and received much commercial success. The Album also featured one of the most highly used rock anthems ‘Rock and Roll Never Forgets’. His next album Stranger in Town featured a few more hits. Although not as highly popular as Night Moves, Seger’s 1978 album still had much success. Featuring hit tracks ‘We’ve Got Tonight’, a slow rock ballad and the world famous cover of ‘Old Time Rock and Roll’, which later became a huge success in the 1980’s film Risky Business, starring Tom Cruise, in one of his most memorable moments in cinema, featuring Bob Seger’s version of the hit song ‘Old Time Rock and Roll’. Seger’s legacy of hits would continue into the 1980’s with hits like ‘Against the Wind’ in 1980 and another big world famous hit ‘Like a Rock’. The 1986 hit, is not only famous for being a hit single, but has been famously used in Chevrolet Commercials. The song has without a doubt been dubbed an anthem for not only trucks, but an anthem for men!  Seger has taken the throne as a rock and roll legend. Bob Seger’s one and only number one hit single off the pop singles chart was a song that most fans would not expect from the Seger Collection. The song ‘Shakedown’ appeared on the 1987 blockbuster hit Beverly Hills Cop 2. The song not written by Seger, was meant to be recorded by Glen Frye, his friend and former member of the Eagles. The song was not only a hit, but also nominated for an Academy Award and Golden Globe for song in a Motion Picture… and lost to Dirty Dancing’s ‘I’ve Had the Time of My Life’.
