The Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are championship bound this NBA season. The most exciting team in basketball is primed for their first ring in thirty years! Yes, the Warriors have not won a basketball championship since 1975. Although, they had the same talent as last year and received their first round boot, this is not expected to happen again. But, in a loaded Western Conference every game can go either way. What is so significant about this season? It is that the Warriors are on top of the standings in the NBA and they show no signs of decline. It’s been a fascinating season for the Warriors and they still have so much more FANTASTIC NBA action to bring!

Now, with the infamous “Splash Brothers” dominating the NBA, the Warriors are lighting up the scoreboards. The Splash brothers are Stephen Curry, arguably the best point guard in basketball and Klay Thompson, who can arguably be labeled the best all around two-guard in the league. With his pin point accurate three point shooting and his dominating defense, Thompson makes a difference on both sides of the court. Now, led by NBA great and former T.V. personality, Steve Kerr; The Warriors are a new team but with the same players. Although some may miss last year’s coach and player favorite Marc Jackson, the Warriors have obviously warmed up to coach Kerr. The “Splash Brothers” are definitely making a splash, along with their supporting cast of U.S. basketball Olympian Andre Igoudala, a tough nose defense NBA veteran. They also have a dominating inside presence with Australian center Andrew Bogut and power forward David Lee.

The big name players aren’t the only members of the Warriors making a difference. The Warriors have six players averaging points in the double figures. Along with Lee, Curry, and Thompson, Harrison Barnes, Draymond Green, and Mareese Speights are adding to the flurry of scoring! With a loaded bench and stellar starting lineup, the Warriors guarantee to excite their strong fan base of the bay area of Northern California. So grab your tickets! Watch the most exciting team in the NBA right now. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are making history as one of the most electrifying guard combos in NBA history. They’re selling out. Be part of the sell out, and score some tickets NOW!

The Warriors have been an organization since 1946! They did not always play in the bay area though. They first started off as a basketball team in the city of Philadelphia, with the same name. The Warriors relocated to the bay area in 1962, but went were known as the SAN FRANCISCO Warriors. But it was in Philadelphia that the Warriors drafted the great Wilt “the stilt’ Chamberlain. Chamberlain went on to shatter records and become a world-wide phenomenon. It was with the Philadelphia Warriors that Wilt Chamberlain scored the infamous 100 points in one game! While Chamberlain remained a Warrior, the team relocated under new ownership to San Francisco. There they would draft another NBA great Nate Thurman. With Thurman and Chamberlain, the Warriors dominated the interior but could not get past the historical Boston Celtic team who won eight straight championships. The Warriors go down in history as one of the teams that lost during the greatest champion streak ever!

After trading Chamberlain back to Philly, but to the 76ers, they drafted another NBA great… Rick Barry! Rick Barry would lift the Warriors to prominence once again, but they ironically lost their next trip to the finals to the Philadelphia Seventy Sixers… Led by Wilt Chamberlain!

Although, Rick Barry was the face of the San Francisco Warriors, tensions were raised later on after he felt they failed to pay him for his job well done. He left the team to play in the ABA, but remained in the bay area playing for the Oakland Oaks. More changes came to the organization following Barry’s departure. After an increasing schedule of home games, the Warriors moved to Oakland and renamed their team the GOLDEN STATE Warriors in 1971. The next year, Barry returned after a four year absence, and led the team to a surprising NBA championship in 1975, against the Washington Bullets, who were labeled the favorites. But, in a shocking four game sweet, with the help of Jamaal Wilkes and Phil Smith, Rick Barry and his Warriors led the franchise to their latest championship!

After their championship season, the Warriors would struggle for years! Although they had some great draft picks, they never really made much of a stride. The late 70’s and early 80’s were a time of struggle for the Warriors. Not until 1985, in which they drafted future hall of famer Chris Mullin did they come back into winning form. Mullin’s arrival brought a resurgence to the organization. They would later add Tim Hardaway and Mitch Richmond and once again the team would be a threat to other teams and exciting for their loyal fans.  With the new trio of players, the Warriors were able to keep up with the quick changing NBA that seemed to evolve into one of America’s greatest pastimes. With the additions of players such as Magic Johnson and Larry Bird in 1980 and the arrival of Michael Jordan in 1985, The NBA was destined for greatness. The Warriors were able to hold their ground with their trio of all stars. Although they challenged teams in the playoffs… even the “Showtime” Los Angeles Lakers, who seem to always be that obstacle they could not overcome. But, the games were filled with excitement.

After the departure of Mullin, Richmond, and Hardaway, Warriors coach Don Nelson could not seem to lead his team to a championship. Even with the new generation of players such as Chris Webber and Letrell Spreewell. The team continued to struggle and go through coaching changes once again. Head Coaches Rick Adelman, PJ Carlesimo, Garry St. Jean, Dave Cowens, Brian Winters, Eric Musselman, Mike Montgomery, and Keith Smart all struggled. Excluding Don Nelson, no coach lasted longer than three years out of the nine coaching hires from 1997-2011. Not until Marc Jackson arrived did a coach with great leadership and winning attitude arrive with the Warriors. Once Jackson took over in 2012, the Warriors became a team destined for greatness. And now with new coach Steve Kerr taking over where Jackson left off, more greatness is on its way to the Golden State Warriors!

The bay area is a place of great loyal fans. With teams like the San Francisco Giants, The 49ers, and even the Oakland Athletics… all teams have a history of winning. The Warriors are now in the mix of teams destined to excite their fans. With the “Splash Brothers” taking the lead, there is always exciting basketball to see. The Western Conference is by far the most exciting it’s been in years.

The Warriors must defend the pacific division against the “Lob City” Clips, the Kings who are not too far away in the State capital of Sacramento, the always exciting Phoenix Suns and it’s always a wild shootout when Kobe Bryant and his Los Angeles Lakers come into town. There is never a dull moment in the NBA, especially when the Warriors are in town. So rather its home at the Oracle Arena or on the road, make sure to check out the Golden State Warriors!

The “Splash Brothers” were born into the NBA! Both Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are offspring of NBA players. Stephen is the son of Del, who played most his years with the Charlotte Hornets during their successful Larry Johnson years. And Klay is the son of Mychal Thompson, former member of the Los Angeles Lakers “Showtime” team and ESPN radio commentator. Both Curry and Thompson come from a family of athletes, all with siblings who have played collegiate and professional sports.
