About The LA Rams

2016 | Written by Mark Anthony Smith

What an exciting time to be a Rams fan! The Rams of the NFC West are actually moving west to sunny southern California! The Rams are coming back home to where the history started! In Los Angeles! The Rams have been improving every year, and after a strong finish in 2015, the Rams are ready to take their heart pounding defense to the next level! Just a few wins away from the playoffs, the action packed, hard hitting defense led by controversial Defensive Coordinator Greg Williams, and defensive minded head coach Jeff Fisher, the Rams are striking fear in every opponent brave enough to strap on pads and line up against the horned animals! With a defensive line led by Robert Quinn—also with inside threats of NFC Rookie of the year Aaron Donald, and Michael Brockers . There is no running over this strong D-Line. Not only do the Rams have the toughest line in football, they also are equipped with hard hitting veteran Mark Barron, Alex Ogletree, and TJ MacDonald! This defense is going to help these Rams win some tight games unless this offense finally lives up to expectations!

With the loss of former NFC rookie of the year Quarterback Sam Bradford, the Rams are now putting hopes into Case Keenum, who is still trying to prove himself in the NFL. Keenum will lead this young offense with new rookie of the year running back Todd Gurley. Gurly is the new star of Los Angeles! He will also have some great deep threats with top receiver Kenny Britt, beast mode receiver Brian Quick and quickest of the quick, Tavon Austin who is expected to finally have a breakout season with the Rams! Although he is one of the best punt returning threats, the Rams hope he can do more damage catching balls downfield. There is so much excitement with these Rams! No longer forced to watch a losing team, the Rams should put some wins up on the board at the historical Los Angeles Coliseum! So order your tickets, because for once… they will actually sell out this year! There is one great way to get tickets! Just call Captain Ticket and get the best seats in the house! Cheer on your hard hitting Rams, because it’s going to be a historical season as they return to Los Angeles!

The Los Angeles Rams History:

The Rams have one of the longest running franchises in football history. Just one year shy of eighty years, the Rams have been around since 1936. This 79 year old franchise started off in the city of Cleveland as the Cleveland Rams. For ten years they called the big city in Ohio home, but left for Los Angeles to fill out the newly football hosted West Coast. Joining the 49ers, the Rams were one of the two first teams to represent professional football! With one championship in Cleveland in 1945, the Rams gave Los Angeles another championship at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 1951. The championship year led to the Rams being the first team to have all games televised! What made this team special was there exciting offense led by Quarterback Norm Van Brocklin and receiver Elroy Hirsch. The 1960’s led the Rams into a new era known as ‘The Fearsome Foursome’. The famous defensive line consisted of Deacon Jones, Lamar Lundy, Rosey Grier and Merlin Olson! This defensive juggernaut would make the Rams a nation famous team. Although, they never won championships, they are still known as one of the greatest defenses to this day. The 70’s would have some of the best Rams teams. The early 70’s Rams usually found themselves as the top of the standings. But these Roman Gabriel and Jack Snow led Rams never made a Super Bowl. The Rams would make the Super Bowl in 1979, with some of the best players in football history such as defensive stud Jack Youngblood and Offensive Lineman hall of famer Jackie Slater. They would end up losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers, led by TV personality and quarterback hall of famer Terry Bradshaw! After the Super Bowl loss, the Rams would face the worst of times, starting with the death of team owner Carroll Rosenbloom. His wife, who would make some controversial decisions after taking over. Georgia Frontiere, a former showgirl would fire her step-son and take complete control. Her first move would be to move the team to Anaheim. The Rams would face some of the darkest times in the 1980’s. Although the 80’s consisted of some excitement, starting with Running Back great Eric Dickerson. Dickerson would run for 2,105 yards in 1984, a record that still has not been beat! After contract disputes, Dickerson was traded in 1987. The Rams would have some great players such as receivers Henry Ellard and Willie ‘Flipper’ Anderson! The Jim Everett led Rams would make the 1989 NFC championship but were no match for the 49ers!

The 1990’s would reach even darker times, with terrible records, low ticket sales, and run by St. Louis native Frontiere, the Rams would leave for St. Louis in 1995. For a few years, the Rams were the laughing stock of the NFL. Not until the arrival of coach Dick Vermeil, the Rams would have what would be a miracle year. In 1999, with the signing of Quarterback Trent Green, trading for Pro-Bowl running back Marshal Faulk, and with long time Ram great receiver Isaac Bruce, the Rams were primed for a playoff season… but tragedy struck in preseason when Trent Green was hit hard and left with a season ending injury. The team was stunned and expectations fell immediately. But they would have a savior by the name of Kurt Warner. Warner, who was stocking shelves in grocery stores not too long before joining the Rams, led the team to their first Super Bowl. Known as the ‘Best Show on Turf’, the Rams shocked the nation with one of the most deadliest offenses—and Warner would lead his team to the Super Bowl and they would win!

After their Super Bowl, the Rams became one of the elite teams, they arrived to one more Super Bowl, a few more playoff appearances, and would bring fame to the Rams once again. But after their ‘Greatest Show on Turf’ died out, the Rams have been one of the worst teams once again! But things have changed the past few years and the Rams are once again primed for Playoff expectations! And the beginning of 2016 has marked another historical even for the Rams. They have forced themselves back into Los Angeles and out of the small town of St. Louis. Now that they are back home there is so much more great football to witness! So make sure to get tickets and watch the Rams head back to L.A!

The Rams are home where they belong… and they have Hollywood written all over them! A few football players of the 60’s and 70’s took some time to do some full time acting. Defensive lineman Rosey Grier had a TV career appearing on his own talk show and on TV shows such as CHiPs and The Simpsons. Merlin Olson appeared on Little House on The Prairie and his own TV show Father Murphy.  Another former player and lead actor was Fred Dryer. The Defensive end appeared on TV show HUNTER!
