The Seattle Seahawks

2015 | Written by Mark Anthony Smith

After an exciting season of Super Bowl Championship football, the Seattle Seahawks look to be the favorites for many seasons to come! With world famous coach Pete Carroll leading the way, there is no stopping the Seahawks! CenturyLink Field is by far the loudest, the craziest, and the most exciting to attend in all of sports. The Seahawks fans are known as one of the most supportive fans, cheering on their Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. While the city of Seattle hasn’t had much luck with their Mariners and loss of their NBA Sonics team, that left with super star Kevin Durant to Oklahoma City… The Seahawks are giving their fans something to cheer about. Led by Coach Pete Carroll, the Seahawks manage to stay on top every season. Even though they are a part of the most competitive divisions of the NFC WEST, forced to play doubles with the always competitive San Francisco Forty Niners, the high flying Arizona Cardinals and the young and feisty defense of the St. Louis Rams. Somehow, the Seahawks find ways to win.

With quarterback Russell Wilson and running back Marshawn Lynch, the offense seems to pound their way into the end-zone and now with the emergence of wide receivers Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse, the Seahawks offense is holding up on its side of the field. But, no worries on the other side… the defense is amazing! The ‘Legion of Boom’ is what they are called. Known as one of the most dynamic defensive backs in football history! They are to the Seahawks what the fearsome foursome of the 70’s was to the Rams.  The Seahawks have the most dangerous secondary in the NFL, which is important in an air attack friendly NFL. Led by super star Richard Sherman, teams are always giving it a second thought to throw down the field, unless they want the ball going the other way!

After one Super Bowl championship under the command of Pete Carroll, the Seahawks look to take in another trophy. But, it won’t be easy as it never is. With a super loaded NFC and AFC, there is no easy win in football. So, come support your team and watch the Super Bowl Defending champs fight their way to one more Super Bowl!

The Seattle Seahawks Organization and History:

The Seahawks entered the NFL in 1976 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an expansion team. As the NFL grew in the 70’s after the merger with the AFL, more teams is exactly what the new high powered, American famous NFL needed. The first coach of the Seahawks was Jack Patera. The first draft pick ever selected for the Seahawks was defensive tackle Steve Niehaus. They played their first game in the King Dome, against the San Francisco 49ers in a preseason match up. Led by Chuck Knox in 1983, the Seahawks made their first playoff appearance. They won their first two playoff games against the Broncos and Dolphins before losing to the Raiders in the AFC championship. Only one victory away from the Super Bowl! The Seahawks would be a franchise of inconsistent play through the 80’s and 90’s. They sold to new ownership in 1988. And although they won their first division title in 1988, they would almost go bankrupt and ponder the idea of relocation just a few years later. The Seahawks came back into success after being sold to Paul Allen in 1997 and later run by hall of fame coach Mike Holmgren. He coached them for 10 seasons. A lengthy tenure compared to most franchises.

The Seahawks also made another part of history when they moved from the AFC WEST to the NFC WEST in a new re-alignment in the NFL. Leaving a division with the Raiders, Chiefs and Broncos, and Chargers…and now entering a division with the Rams, Forty-Niners, and Cardinals. The Seahawks slowly rose to success with the addition of Super Star Running Back Shaun Alexander and Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. The 2005 Seattle Seahawks found their way into Super Bowl, but losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The Seahawks remained a competitive team ever since. Especially after the hiring of USC Trojan coach Pete Carroll. Carroll led the team to a playoff run with the low record of 7-9 and they even won their first wild card game, but later lost to the Super Bowl bound Chicago Bears, who later lost to the Colts.

But Carroll would slowly build what is now one of the most dynamic teams in football history. With surprise stars Russell Wilson and Richard Sherman, and with the addition of hard hitting running back Marshawn Lynch, the Seahawks are now the most dominating team in the NFL. Carroll is known as one of the most successful coaches and started in onslaught of College Coach hires such as Chip Kelly, Lane Kiffin, and Greg Schiano. In the 2014 Super Bowl, Carroll led his Seahawks to their first Super Bowl win against the dominating Denver Broncos led by Payton Manning. And while most counted out the Seahawks, they killed the Broncos in a Super Bowl slaughter. While the past few Super Bowls had been close, the Seahawks won 43-8. This was an unexpected blowout!

The Seahawks Fan Experience:

The Seahawks contain a large history of great players. Players such as Steve Largent, John Randle, Shaun Alexander, Cortez Kennedy, Dave Krieg and Marcus Trufant. Today they still have greats putting on the Seahawks uniform. The most recent… Russell Wilson. Wilson by far, the most impressive and surprising player in the NFL. Picked in the 3rd round of the 2012 NFL draft, Russell Wilson was not expected to do much as he was the 76th pick. Fighting for the third string spot, Wilson managed to work his way in as a starter! Now Wilson is thought of as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He may not be flashy like Cam Newton, he may not have the charisma and charm of a Aaron Rogers, or the brilliant acting skills of a Manning brother... But he knows how to win. And that’s what makes the fans in Seattle so wildly energetic! Watching him play in person is something different altogether. Fans are sure to be blown away as they witness Wilson dominate on offense while super star Richard Sherman takes over on the defensive side! Get your tickets and watch one of the best shows in the NFL… Seattle Seahawks football!

Seahawks FUN FACTS:

After the re-alignment of the NFL in which the Seahawks moved from the AFC WEST to the NFC WEST, the Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers, and Kansas City Chiefs went back to their old school alignment AFL division that existed before the merger.
