The Los Angeles Dodgers

2017 | Written by David Brodeur

The 2017 version of the LA Dodgers will begin the season with much promise and belief they have the team to finally make another World Series appearance, their first since winning it all in 1988. The past two seasons had them in the playoffs competing for the chance to make the World Series only to fall short each year. The off season saw them sign two players who will play a major role if they are to be a contender. 3B Justin Turner's signing of a long term contract will ensure the team's offense will have the punch to put plenty of balls into the pavilion seats.

Pitching wins championships and the other off season signing was a big one! Having a dominate closer in the bullpen like Hanley Jansen is a luxury every team in the league would love to have and he will be a Dodger for years to come after re signing with the team. Of course the pitching staff is anchored by the best pitcher in the game for the past 3 seasons and counting. Clayton Kershaw is often compared to LA Dodger legend Sandy Koufax and his statistics certainly validate the comparison. Kershaw suffered a serious back injury last season and he missed close to two months and the organization feared that he would need surgery to repair a herniated disc. Instead Kershaw embarked on a rigorous rehab program that allowed him to return to the mound for the stretch run and into the playoffs. Several of his outings after returning from injury were among his best of the season leaving little doubt his injury would not require surgery. Be sure to keep your eyes on the schedule this season so you can make your plans to see Kershaw and the Dodgers in action at Chavez ravine.

The San Francisco Giants figure to be the Dodgers main rival, as always, and the newly crowned champion Chicago Cubs along with the venerable St. Louis Cardinals, will give the Dodgers strong competition for the precious few playoff berths. Last year saw the emergence of shortstop Corey Seager who ended up being named Rookie of the Year in the National League and only figures to move forward of last season's performance. He has been dealing with a bruised right shin in spring training but figures to be ready to go on opening day. Kershaw has already been named the opening day starter which is always a great game to attend - don't miss it!

The team will benefit from having a tremendous amount of depth in the outfield giving second year manager Dave Roberts a wealth of line up possibilities. Fan favorite Yasiel Puig is back for another year and after his attitude adjustment from a brief stint in the minors last season, he returned to the Dodgers late in the season and made some contributions during the playoffs push. There is optimism that he will use that experience as a springboard to returning to playing the type of baseball he is capable of and made him a fan favorite. Another player who extended his contract with much less fanfare than Turner and Jansen is the versatile Chase Utley who can play every position in the infield efficiently while being a useful hitter and base runner. Andrew Toles had an impressive showing last season on a limited basis only getting 105 AB's and ending with a .314 batting average and .365 OBP, will battle during spring for the starting job and will surely be a part of Robert's platoon system. Andre Ethier returns for another season along with the steady and dependable Adrian Gonzalez at first base. Joining Kershaw in the rotation will be the Dodgers most talked about minor league prospect since Fernando Valenzuela in Julio Urias who made his major league debut after being called up late season going 5-2 with a 3.39 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP as a 20 year old. The Dodgers acquired right handed pitcher Rich Hill from the Oakland A's late season last year and he figures to be the # 2 starter this season. With all the pitching talent the Dodgers have they should remain a mainstay in the playoff conversation all year long. There is a buzz surrounding this team as they ready for the regular season and the Dodgers fans are the most loyal and devoted fans in the league and will sell out most games. So don't get shut out on tickets to the games and make your plans early by calling The Captain for your Dodger tickets to the entire season. GO BIG BLUE!!

When you hold LA Dodger Tickets in your hand, your holding onto a legacy. Not many baseball teams have such a tremendous history and legacy as the LA Dodgers, except maybe the New York Yankees. It was many years ago the boys in blue were located not too far from the boys in pin stripes. From the beginning of baseball the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Yankees battled each other in some of the most dynamic baseball games in MLB history! In many grueling battles, the Dodgers finally beat the Yankees in 1955 to become World Series Champs. But, what made the Dodgers special was the courageous signing of the first African American baseball player… Jackie Robinson. Robinson was ironically raised in the LA area, but played his baseball career with the Dodgers in Brooklyn, New York. In 1947, Robinson joined the Dodgers and faced harsh racism and rejection by fans and players though out the MLB, but won the love and adoration of African American baseball fans throughout the United States. Robinson’s legacy would break barriers and color lines in American sports. To this day he is praised as a hero and inspiration to sports fans around the world for revolutionizing baseball forever!

The Dodgers would eventually leave Ebbits Field after the end of Robinson’s tenure and move to Los Angeles in 1958. Their first few seasons as the LA Dodgers would be played at the LA Memorial Coliseum before finally moving to the newly constructed Dodger Stadium in 1962. To this day it is one of the oldest standing stadiums in the majors. The Dodgers would expand their legacy in Los Angeles winning multiple World Series Championships, starting in 1959. The Dodgers would also find success 1963 and 1965. The Dodgers wouldn’t win another World Series for 16 years in 1981, led by one of the most prolific and worldly known managers in all of sports… Tommy Lasorda! Lasorda would also win one more world series in 1988.

In the first 30 years of LA Baseball, the Dodgers would build a solid legacy with many baseball legends such as Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Ron Cey, Pedro Guerro, Kirk Gibson, Mike Piazza and Orel Hershiser! Not only would the Dodgers be known to have such great Hall of Fame players, but they also broke many barriers around the world with foreign stars such as Fernando Valenzuela, a Mexican fan favorite, Hideo Nomo, who famously started Nomo Mania as he shocked the world as a Japanese import… and now the Cuban great Yasiel Puig.

The Dodger’s legacy is something their fans are very proud of. The Dodgers continue to make new strides in revolutionizing the MLB, and making the game more exciting every day. Although the Dodgers seemed to lose a little appeal with the retirement of Tommy Lasorda and after being sold by the O’Malley Family, who owned the team from 1950-1998… the Dodgers faced troubling times. Passed through a handful of managers and a few failed ownership's, the Dodgers have risen back to prominence now owned by Stan Kasten, run by Ervin “Magic” Johnson, and also managed by baseball great Don Mattingly. The Dodgers look to now add more to their already impressive legacy!

So don't miss a game this season and, more importantly, don't overpay for your Dodger tickets. Many other sites add a bunch of fees in when you check out but not us, we've never added any fees to our ticket prices. When you shop with The Captain, the price you see is the price you pay, period!

No matter the night, the Dodger game fan experience is one of historical status. It’s always a special occasion at Dodger Stadium, so shop on the best ticket site for the cheapest prices on all Dodger tickets without fees then head to game and have a blast!

In the 2014 season, the LA Dodgers took home the award for MVP and Cy Young, rewarding the best player and pitcher in the National League. Clayton Kershaw took both awards, being the first since Sandy Koufax in 1963. Don Nercomb started the trend in 1956, when he won both awards. Now that Kershaw has achieved such greatness, when was the last time the Dodgers took home both MVP and Cy Young.

HINT: It was two players that took home each award.
